Martial arts gym management. Members Training schedule and bout records, in one app

Before Bout Buddy

Before Bout Buddy, many martial arts gyms ran daily operations using a mix of group chats, spreadsheets, and manual calendars. Member information, roles, and payments were tracked in different places, and it was easy for updates to get missed when coaches and fighters were not looking at the same source of truth. Schedule changes and announcements were often shared through messages that got buried, which created confusion for classes, cancellations, and special sessions.

For fighters, event planning and bout history were usually scattered across notes, photos, and social posts. Keeping an accurate record of fights, results, and key details took time, and sharing that info with coaches or teammates was not always consistent. As gyms grow, these disconnected workflows can slow down communication, reduce accountability, and make it harder to build a strong community.

After Bout Buddy

After Bout Buddy, gyms and fighters can manage key workflows in one mobile app built for combat sports communities. Gyms can organize members and roles, share announcements in a consistent place, and keep schedules clearer with structured class calendars and updates. That reduces missed messages and gives athletes a more reliable view of what is happening at their gym, even when schedules change.

Fighters can also track events and bout records in a single system instead of relying on scattered personal notes. With centralized records, it becomes easier to review history, keep details consistent, and support coach visibility where needed. The result is a smoother gym experience with better communication, cleaner tracking, and a more scalable setup for small and midsize gyms in the US and Canada.

Delivery Approach

Specifications Ready, No Discovery Needed

Bout Buddy came to development with its scope already defined. The specifications covered the whole product: user stories grouped into epics for fighters and gyms, a detailed database design, and screen designs for every part of the app, from fight records to events and results. Because those documents were complete, no Discovery phase was needed. We moved straight from the specifications to a development plan with a fixed scope, so development could begin right away and everyone knew what the finished product had to do.

Cross-Platform Development and Launch

We built Bout Buddy as a cross-platform app, so a single codebase serves iOS, Android and the web. Fighters and gyms can use it on whichever device they prefer, with their fight records, gym coordination, events and results in one place. Working from complete specifications kept the build focused on the agreed scope from the first day to release. The app was published on the App Store and Google Play, with a web version alongside them.
It is published on the App Store, on Google Play and as a web app, and it passed 1,000 users in its first 45 days.

With the scope defined up front, the budget went into building the product, not into working out what to build.

Impact

Bout Buddy helped combat sports gyms reduce day-to-day friction by replacing scattered tools with a single mobile workflow for memberships, schedules, and gym communication. Owners and coaches can publish weekly programs, handle schedule changes and cancellations, and share announcements in a consistent place, so members are less likely to miss important updates.

For fighters, the app creates a cleaner way to track events and bout records over time, while keeping documents organized with privacy controls and expiration tracking.
